Discover the Habitat and Wildlife of the Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area
Jim Eckler, Senior Wildlife Biologist with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) will present an overview of the state lands that make up the Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area.  Jim will explain how habitat and wildlife restoration efforts have led to the success of reintroduced species such as the river otter and bald eagle.

Paul and Anne Schnell of the Institute for Environmental Learning, www.eilraptors.org will introduce Liberty, a bald eagle, and other raptorswhich can not be returned to the wild, to provide a close up look at how predators adapt and fit into the environment.

Habitat Gardening for Wildlife and for People, Too!
Join Janet Allen as she shares how to provide habitat for wildlife and more enjoyable for people, too.  Janet is co-founderand president of Habitat Gardening in Central New (www.hgcny.org) and speaks to gardening and nature enthusiasts throughout central New York.

Paul and Anne Schnell of the Institute for Environmental Learning, www.ielraptors.org use raptors to provide examples of how every person can make a difference and contribute to the health of our planet.

3:15-4:00 pm Scientists Need You!
Staff from the Montezuma Audubon Center, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and representatives of the Board of the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex will help you get started as a Citizen Scientist.  Volunteers help provide data to scientists on local animals, from amphibians to birds.  This panel discussion will highlight FrogWatch 2008, the Breeding Bird Survey, and the Christmas Bird Count and will provide information on a range of other citizen science programs.
